Robyn Marie Holl recently experienced a unique moment in her artistic journey: two independent Sarasota arts organizations showcased her work during the same weekend.
As one of six featured artists at ArtLab’s 4th Anniversary, Robyn’s work was presented as part of the organization’s largest production to date, bringing together artists and creative voices from across Sarasota.
At the same time, Robyn completed her fifth Artist Residency at Art Ovation Hotel, culminating in Sunlit Rejuvenation—a new week-long series exploring joy, clarity, sunlight, and the freedom to shine.

An artist shaped by movement, place, and possibility.
For Robyn Marie Holl, painting has been a lifelong exploration of what is possible through color, form, and movement.
Her formal training began at Pratt Institute, where she earned a BFA in Painting with a minor in Art History, and continued through the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where she earned her MFA.
Her artistic journey has taken her from Brooklyn to Bosnia and Herzegovina and ultimately to Sarasota where her practice has expanded beyond the studio into curating, mentoring, teaching, and connecting artists with the community.
Today, Robyn serves as Cultural Curator at Art Ovation Hotel, where she develops exhibitions, artist residencies, and cultural experiences that bring artists and audiences together.

Frequently Asked Questions
When someone brings one of your pieces into their home, what do you hope that piece gives them every day?
I hope it gives them joy—a momentary redirect from everyday life into another world, a place where they can pause, breathe, and experience their own light. I want the work to become something they can return to, again and again, and find a little happiness in.
What usually causes someone to decide they want to purchase one of your pieces?
I have a great story about the first five-foot painting I ever sold. Paul Peterson reached out to me after seeing the final exhibition from our Post-Bacc program at MICA. He wanted to meet for coffee and talk about possibly purchasing a piece.
When we met, he told me that he had been meeting someone in front of the building, and the experience had been especially meaningful to him. Then, looking through the window, he saw my painting. Something about seeing it in that particular moment made him want to own it—not simply because he liked the painting, but because he wanted it to hold the memory of that experience.
We negotiated a price, and my brother and I delivered the five-foot canvas to Paul’s apartment in Baltimore. It was a small place, and the available wall was almost exactly the size of the painting. Somehow, it fit perfectly.
Paul continued to support my work while I lived in Maryland. He moved to Seattle in 2024, and I haven’t heard from him since. But I still think about that story because it reminds me that people don’t always buy art simply for what they see. Sometimes they buy it for what they feel, what it represents, or the memory they want to carry with them.
If someone could experience one feeling every time they looked at your artwork, what would you want that feeling to be?
Blissful happiness.
Why?
Because I believe art is not a luxury. It is a necessity for life to have meaning. Art gives us a way to connect with something beyond the ordinary—to feel, to reflect, to imagine, and sometimes simply to experience joy.
What do you hope your artwork reminds them of?
Love and joy. Ultimately, I hope the work brings people back to those two things—to something light, meaningful, and deeply human.
